Why did God Create Man Knowing We Would Sin?

God in His infinite knowledge knew that Adam and Eve would sin and caused the whole of mankind to fall into sin, yet He continued to create man and on numerous occasions destroyed them on a large scale. If God decided not to create humans, wouldn’t He have avoided all the unnecessary killing?

How this question will be answered is of vital importance because it concerns the integrity of God – His faithfulness and goodness. If we claim that God could not foretell the future, and all that had happened were due to circumstances unforeseen by Him, we may then reason that it was not His fault, because He did not intend for this to happen and created man out of good motives. However, we know that since the beginning of time, God had already foreseen the future and of events that would happen in the last days, which have been clearly written in the Book of Revelation in the Bible. It is without a doubt that even before the world came to be, God already foreknew that we would sin. Not only did He know that we would sin, but He also knew that He had to on various occasions destroyed mankind to prevent them from being consumed by their sins and thus preserving them to this very day.

The writer once met a person who could not get a satisfactory answer to this question and ended up leaving the church and the Lord. This person felt that God was a hypocrite since God had known that mankind was going to sin, yet He insisted on creating us and subsequently attempted to destroy all of humanity in the name of “holiness”. This person felt that God was merely toying with humans, where in reality He was a mass murderer putting up a false front. This person was not able to believe in Jesus, after all, Jesus dying on the cross was probably another act put up by God. Although this person’s thinking might be biased and filled with many misunderstandings about God, we have to admit that even we have harboured the same doubt sometimes.

The wisdom of God hidden in the creation of the world is unfathomable, how could mere man attempt to comprehend it? Unless the almighty God chooses to reveal it to us, who can understand His mind? Let us go to the Bible – the revelation of God, to bring to light the mystery of the creation of the world.

God reveals His true purpose of creation in the Book of Matthew, chapter 13: “I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world… This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth… Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.” When God created the world, He hid a great mystery. The current material world that we live in is not the intended world that God truly desires, what God desires is the spiritual world that is to come. This world we have today is merely a temporal transition. It is a waiting place for the preparation and completion of that eternal heavenly kingdom. In that spiritual world, there will be thousands and millions of repented believers and every one of them will give forth the glory of God as bright as the morning sun. This is the world that God truly wants, the present world is never the ultimate goal of why God had created this world.

In the present age of preparation, many choose not to turn to God but to continue in their sinful ways, this number far exceeds those who repent and turn to God. Those who have rejected God shall end up bearing the consequence of their sins and finally find themselves in the fiery depth of hell. However, this is not the situation that God wishes to see, His sole desire is for every single person on earth to be saved and that none would perish (1Timothy 2:4). This is why whenever God needs to cleanse the earth by destroying mankind, His heart is filled with great grief. God is love, He does not desire anyone to come to condemnation. He sincerely desires that everyone would come to repentance and be saved. Even though the price of building this eternal world is hefty, yet God’s determination to accomplish this heavenly kingdom is sure and steadfast. Even if God has a second chance to recreate this world all over again, He would not hesitate to do it one more time in exactly the same manner, because this is already the perfect way and there is no better way available.

The world we live in today is fast deteriorating, not only is the natural environment becoming more adverse, man’s moral standards have also plummeted. All these did not occur due to God’s miscalculations when He first created the world, but everything is moving forward according to His plan, with the final purpose of bringing in the new heaven and the new earth (Rev 21:1) that He truly desires.

This physical world is coming to an end, the spiritual kingdom is coming soon. We should not continue to be resentful and lament against God for creating man and putting us in hell since He already foreknew that we will sin. This argument is invalid and totally without merit. If anyone ends up in hell, it can only be due to his sins and his refusal to repent and accept God’s salvation. There is no one to blame but himself. However, rather than blaming God, we should be thanking Him instead. For He has already prepared the plan of Salvation, so that anyone who is willing can receive it freely. This same salvation will also allow us to enter the most beautiful and glorious heavenly kingdom, which is what God has truly intended for mankind from the very beginning when He created the world.
